Abortion, with love

Telling Stories Through Photography, with Camila Cavalcante

Camila Ochoa Mendoza Episode 18

For the Lives of All Women / Pela Vida Das Mulheres, is a photography book by Camila Cavalcante. It's a collection of photos and stories of 30 Brazilian women who have had abortions, along with a selection of essays by researchers and activists.

In this episode, Camila tells us about the process of creating this book, and her experience of listening to the stories of women who have had abortions in a country where abortion is highly restricted and stigmatised.  She talks about why she includes herself in the photos, and  the symbolic value  of her presence, and nudity in the photographs. We also talk about photography as a tool for spreading awareness, and how to do so in a socially conscious and ethical way.
